Michele GowerFounder. Family Support Specialist. Youth Support Specialist Hi, I'm Michele, and I'm here to help. You can get to know me a little more... I grew up in Sydney and met my now husband, Rohan when I was 17. We moved to the beautiful Central Coast in 1999 when we had our eldest son. Rohan and I now have four children, ranging in ages from 8 to 20. In 2003, I left the Corporate world to setup my own business so I could be at home with my family and put an end to the Coast-Sydney commute. I have a passion for supporting youth and young adults, whom I believe are amazing and have much to offer. I have created and facilitated a Youth Outreach Program for our local church, and specialise in Coaching and Mentoring Youth to overcome barriers and reach their goals. I love helping them realise their worth, their potential and that they are on this earth to do more than just survive. I also have a passion in helping families thrive. I believe that families are the foundation of society. As Mother Teresa said 'If you want to change the world, go home and love your family'. However, in todays world, sometimes even that can seem so difficult - there is pressure from all sides and even at the best of times, it can feel overwhelming. I've been there, so I know how you feel. I honestly do... In 2009, our second eldest son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 6. Our lives seemed to change in an instant. We knew something was 'not quite right' with our Josh, and now we knew 'what'. With the diagnosis came a prescription for anti-psychotic medication and a lost hope for his future, as we were told he would never achieve much in life. We chose to actively reject the 'specialist''s opinions, and instead focus on helping him to become the best he could possibly be. We weren't happy with him just surviving, we wanted him to thrive. Now at the age of 17, our Josh is doing just that. He has defied all the limits put on him and is an active, social, fun and loving young man. Read Josh's story 'From Survive to Thrive' I am active in my Catholic faith, which I love greatly. I have been through my own mental health battles, with my faith in God helping me through the most darkest of times. However, I didn't always believe in God - I was heavily involved in the new age for many years and before that I simply believed that there was nothing. This is why I am respectful of other peoples beliefs and I do not judge. As Mother Teresa so beautifully points out "If you judge people, you have no time to love them". To understand more about why I will pray for you (and not necessarily with you), but will always remain respectful of different beliefs, you can read my story; from 'New age to Catholicism' In your heart you know the kind of life you want, the type of family you'd like to be a part of - no doubt one full of harmony, peace, fun, laughter, respect, kindness and more.
